Blurb (Goodreads):
Lucy Yang is loving her first television job in Hong Kong. She works hard and plays hard, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship if she wants to become a TV news anchor by the time she’s twenty-one. Besides, what man could live up to her impossibly high standards?

Then she meets Byron, and her world is turned upside-down. Funny, clever and impossibly gorgeous, Byron might just satisfy all of Lucy’s criteria. Sure, he’s a little cagey about his job, but what businessman in Hong Kong doesn’t want to protect trade secrets?

But as Lucy desperately tries to get to the bottom of a potentially huge news story, Byron keeps popping up in the most unlikely places. Is it just a coincidence? Or is Lucy’s perfect man not so perfect after all?

My Thoughts:

I don't know what to expect in Counterfeit Love apart from the invitation to read a contemporary romance novel set in Hong Kong. I'm quite excited about it; I don't think I've read a book set in Hong Kong or Asia (except for Filipino books, of course).

Counterfeit Love started like most contemp romance would welcome their readers. Girl meets boy, girl begins to have a crush on boy, boy searches for girl, and the likes. It was like something I read from other books. I'm starting to get bummed when a plot twist appeared. From ordinary, this book became a tale of mystery--like an undercover story, only lighter, and hilarious awkward romance. I liked how the author took a spin on the story and made this book more meaningful. It was a good move. I end up liking it more than I thought.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants something light but quite different from others. This book is totally worth the read.

  1. Am not familiar with this author but I enjoyed your review. I agree, the Hong Kong setting makes it tempting (and I have been there as well!).
