Celebrating Debutantes 2014: Stacey Nash (Interview + Giveaway)

Author of Forget Me Not, Stacey Nash, shares her debut experience, embarrassing moment on Book Expo Australia 2014, and more on our interview!

Stacey Nash

1. What's the best thing that happened after your book was published?

Having people I barely knew seek me out to tell me they had read my book and they loved it.

2. How did you celebrate the publishing of your book?

I sat by the computer pressing refresh until it appeared on Amazon. No, really I had a massive facebook party with a bunch of fellow YA authors and readers. It was a lot of fun and we gave away lots of books and swag. Also, my hubby brought congrats flowers and we went out for breakfast which is my favourite meal of the day.

3. When is your best time to write?

My house is filled with little noise makers who make it impossible to concentrate on anything but them, so most of my writing takes place after 8.30 at night when they’re all tucked away in bed. Also, and this is a little weird, but I’m at my most creative when I’m tired. The plot twists that come out late at night are always so much better than those I dream up during the day.

4. Do you read reviews of your book?

I try not to. I believe that reviews are for the readers. It’s where they get to talk to about books they loved or hated and why they felt that why. Often a conversation starts up amongst the readers and I kind of feel like I’m eavesdropping if I read that. So as a general rule, I stay well away. It’s also too easy to get caught up in reviews when really, I should be writing. But I do read them every now and again... my willpower isn’t made of iron.

5. What is your best or most unforgettable moment with a fan?

Hmm, tough question. My book hasn’t been out very long, so I don’t feel like I have a solid fan base. I did meet some really fun girls at Book Expo Australia in August. My book had only been out for a few weeks, but they were so enthusiastic and fun, I really enjoyed meeting them. Later a few of them mentioned meeting me on their YouTube channels, so that was pretty cool.

6. Was there any book/s from other debut author of 2014 that you loved?

Yes! I love Isla’s Inheritance by Cassandra Page. It was a fast paced YA Urban Fantasy and I think it being set in my home country really made me appreciate it more.

7. Are you interested in writing in a different genre or for a different audience?

Although my heart is in YA speculative fiction, and I think that is the direction my career will go, earlier this year I was compelled to write an NA contemporary story. I’m not sure what I will do with it yet or if I will write anything else in that genre, but it sure was different to what I generally write.

8. Share us one embarrassing moment you’ve had.

Oh gosh. I mentioned Book Expo earlier didn’t I? I had an embarrassing moment that day. I had my heads under the table digging in my food stash for some morning tea when someone came up to my table and spoke. I jumped, squealed, and said ‘hi’. Then after our visitor left was still starving so went to grab the banana I’d had before she arrived. Only I couldn’t find it. An hour later… I found it smeared on my butt. I was wearing black jeans too, so it was pretty obvious that I’d sat on a banana!

9. Favorite color? Blue

Favorite movie? Ten Things I Hate About You

Favorite ice cream flavor? Cookies and Cream

Favorite song? Light Surrounding You by Evermore

Ultimate celebrity crush (dead or alive)? Heath Ledger

10. What's next for you?

Not only was my debut published this year, so was book two in the series. Right now, I’m working on book 3. Then who knows. I need to write one more book to complete the series, plus I have a few other story ideas floating around and some more out on submission. Anything could come next! But I know it will full of adventure, danger and off course, kissing!
