Celebrating Debutantes 2013: Amy Christine Parker (13 Random Facts + Giveaway)

Day 6 of Celebrating Debutantes 2013, second day of Halloween treat for you!
Today I have the author who has, apparently, a husband who have night terrors (basically she has too; she said she can’t sleep with any part of her body uncovered or hanging off the bed because of monsters. Don't tell her I told you. Still, it's on the list!).

13 Random Facts

1. My current favorite snack food is Buffalo Wing flavored pretzel chips dipped in blue cheese dressing.

2. I get violently ill when I snorkle and so my family has banned me from it for good.

3. I check behind the shower curtain every time I use a bathroom with one. I know no one will be hiding there and yet....

4. My favorite gum is Wrigleys Big Red, but Wrigleys Spearmint is a close second.

5. I once ran into the front of my college dorm with my car. Not hard, but STILL.

6. My husband has night terrors and regularly pitches me out of bed because he thinks there are bugs or snakes in it and he’s trying to save me from them.

7. I hate, hate, hate the way chalk feels on my hands. It makes me shiver.

8. I can’t sleep with any part of my body uncovered or hanging off the bed. MONSTERS (I’m still two apparently when it comes to the dark and such).

9. My Dad’s nickname for me as a kid was Fuzzy—I have no idea why.

10. I’d rather stay up late than get up early. Always.

11. I failed my driver’s test twice before passing--which explains #5, don’t you think?

12. Fall is my favorite time of year and when I complain nonstop about living in Florida because we don’t have one.

13. I don’t like hot drinks like coffee, tea, hot chocolate. I am an iced filled glass/cold drink kind of girl.

Gated
by Amy Christine Parker

Published August 6th 2013 by Random House Books for Young Readers

Do the gates keep the unchosen out or the chosen in?

In Mandrodage Meadows, life seems perfect. The members of this isolated suburban community have thrived under Pioneer, the charismatic leader who saved them from their sad, damaged lives. Lyla Hamilton and her parents are original members of the flock. They moved here following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, looking to escape the evil in the world. Now seventeen, Lyla knows certain facts are not to be questioned:

Pioneer is her leader.

Will is her Intended.

The end of the world is near.

Like Noah before him, Pioneer has been told of the imminent destruction of humanity. He says his chosen must arm themselves to fight off the unchosen people, who will surely seek refuge in the compound's underground fortress--the Silo.

Lyla loves her family and friends, but given the choice, she prefers painting to target practice. And lately she'd rather think about a certain boy outside the compound than plan for married life in the Silo with Will. But with the end of days drawing near, she will have to pick up a gun, take a side, and let everyone know where she stands.

  2. I don't have much in common with Amy at all. Just that I would rather stay up late than get up early. I hate the mornings.
