Today on Celebrating Debutantes 2013 our featured debut author is not only a, well, debut author, she's also the writer and co-executive producer of The Revengers!
I used to think it was unlucky, but 2013 has been so good to me-- My book came out, and I got engaged. But maybe '14 is my unlucky number!
2. What's the best thing that happened after your book was published?
Probably getting my first email from a reader who loved PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. I was never really expecting fan mail, so that was a fantastic surprise.
3. How did you celebrate the publishing of your book?
My then-boyfriend and I went out for sushi. Then a week later, I had a launch party at the Book Revue, an independent bookstore on Long Island. We had skull-shaped cookies and lemonade, and I signed 50 books for family and friends.
4. Do you read reviews of your book?
Not often. If someone tweets a review at me saying they loved it, I feel it's only polite to read! But I actually enjoy reading reviews. It's good to know what people did or didn't like about the book. Often, I feel inspired when people are talking about my work-- whether it's positive or negative.
5. What is your best or most unforgettable moment with a fan?
A reader tweeted at me saying she was doing her book report on PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. That absolutely made writing the book worth it!
6. Was there any book/s from other debut author of 2013 that you loved?
Yes! I loved ANOTHER LITTLE PIECE by Kate Karyus Quinn, MILA 2.0 by Debra Driza, and VENGEANCE BOUND by Justina Ireland.
7. Are you interested in writing in a different genre or for a different audience?
Absolutely. I love YA very much, but I could see myself writing mysteries for adults, or possibly a different YA category like paranormal or sic-fi.
8. Share us one embarrassing moment you've had.
I was on an escalator at a mall in Boston, and I turned around to talk to someone and fell backwards when we reached the top!
9. Favorite color? Red
Favorite movie? Inception
Favorite ice cream flavor? Rocky road
Favorite song? American Girl by Tom Petty
Ultimate celebrity crush (dead or alive)? Joseph Gordon Levitt!
10. What's next for you?
Finishing up DEADLY LITTLE SINS, the third book in the PSC series. Also, I'm writing a pilot for the CW network called THE REVENGERS. After that, I hope to start another YA series!

More about Kara!
Kara has a BA in English/Secondary Education from Stony Brook University. She loves New Girl, sushi, and puppets that say rude things. It’s her dream to own a bakery someday.
Kara was inspired to start writing in part by her grandmother giving her Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and in part by her father’s bizarre antics, such as blow-drying his car. Her father looked like Borat in the 80′s.
Kara lives on Long Island with a Chihuahua named Izzy and a kitten named Felix. Her favorite authors are Gillian Flynn, Stephanie Perkins, and Janet Evanovich. She writes full-time, both on the PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL series and for Warner Brothers Television. She is the writer and co-executive producer of The Revengers, a dramedy in development at The CW, executive produced by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste & Jesse Forever).

Prep School Confidential
(Prep School Confidential #1)
by Kara Taylor
Published July 30th 2013 by St. Martin's Griffin
Blurb (Goodreads):
In this breathtaking debut that reads like Gossip Girl crossed with Twin Peaks, a Queen Bee at a blue-blooded New England prep school stumbles into a murder mystery.
Anne Dowling practically runs her exclusive academy on New York’s Upper East Side—that is, until she accidentally burns part of it down and gets sent to a prestigious boarding school outside of Boston. Determined to make it back to New York, Anne couldn't care less about making friends at the preppy Wheatley School. That is, until her roommate Isabella’s body is found in the woods behind the school.
When everyone else is oddly silent, Anne becomes determined to uncover the truth no matter how many rules she has to break to do it. With the help of Isabella’s twin brother Anthony, and a cute classmate named Brent, Anne discovers that Isabella wasn’t quite the innocent nerdy girl she pretended to be. But someone will do anything to stop Anne’s snooping in this fast-paced, unputdownable read—even if it means framing her for Isabella’s murder.
