[Feb Feels: 7 days of Valentines 2014] YA/NA Contemporary Romance Author Interviews

Welcome! I have compiled short Q&As from different YA/NA contemporary romance authors for the fifth day of Feb Feels! The questions contains facts about the authors, their book/s, and other fun stuff--all with the romance/Valentines theme.

Interview with the author of Pushing The Limits (companion series), Katie McGarry. I recently came across on her new upcoming novel on Goodreads, Red at Night, and gosh, I so want to read it!

1)So far, whose story from your Pushing The Limits companion series is your favorite, and why?

Oh, that is so hard to pick as I love them all!

Pushing the Limits will always be special to me because it was the first book I published. Dare You To is one close to my heart as it is a story that is very personal to me. But Crash Into You... this one just makes me smile. I fell in love with Isaiah early on in the series and it was a joy to see him find true love.

Now, Take Me On will be out in May and this one has the possibility of surpassing the other three for me. This one was emotionally draining for me to write, but West made it worth the journey.

2)What was the last book/movie/song that made you fall in love?

I absolutely love Gena Showalter’s Alice in Zombieland series. There’s just something about Alice and Cole that makes me happy.

3)What's the first thing you notice (and like) on a guy?

His eyes. One of the first things I noticed about my husband was his beautiful green eyes.

Interview with Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times and USA Today Best-Selling author of Wait For You series and Gamble Brothers series. She also had written several stand-alone novels and paranormal, sci-fi, and fantasy series including Lux series, Covenant series, and Dark Element series. Seriously, this woman writes a lot! ;D

1)We all knew that you write these hot novels that a lot of people loved. In which book of yours you think you've written the sexiest scene ever?

I think it's the underworld pool scene in Apollyon.

2)What's your favorite love song? Cosmic Love by Florence and the Machine

3)What book did made you feel all the feels?  That's a tough one. If you're talking about one of my books, I'm going to go with Wait for You because of Cam.

The author of one of my favorite YA contemporary romance series, Slammed, is also here for an interview! #1 New York Times Best-Selling author Colleen Hoover had another success with her Hopeless series. Maybe Someday is her new upcoming novel that I'm sure a lot of people would love as well.

1)Does some of the romantic scenes from your books happened to you?

None of what happens in my books are things that have really happened to me. I really like taking scenarios I've never been in and trying to imagine how other people would react to or handle them, so my books all tend to be pretty far off from my real life.

2)If you were given a chance to write a song, what would it be about and what title would you give it?

Well, I did contribute some of the lyrics to Griffin Peteron's song, Maybe Someday, from the book, Maybe Someday, so I guess it would be called Maybe Someday and it would be about… well, it would be about the book, Maybe Someday lol.

3)What's your favorite/most romantic book/song/movie that you read/listened/watched?

My favorite romance has to be The Fault in our Stars by John Green. Incredible read. If you haven't read it yet, you're missing out.

This interview with International Best-Selling author, Gayle Forman, was taken from the Q&A when she had a book signing event here in Manila back in January 18th 2014. Her published novels If I Stay and Just One Day are both duets. (The questions and her answers are not the exact words from the forum, but it's pretty close. I forgot to record it and now my memory is fuzzy. >.<)

1)Do you have plans in branching out of contemporary?

I love writing about the world we live in and I don't want to leave it. And since some people see If I Stay as a paranormal book, I think I already branched out of the genre.

2)Are you involved in the making If I Stay movie?

Yes, I'm involved in the making of If I Stay movie. I have read the script and cried four times. It was embarrassing.

3)Most of your books focus on telling events that happened in a single day. What is it about a one day event that seems appealing to you? (Q&A from Blackplume)

One day event can catalyze change to anyone, like with Just One Day and Just One Year where a one day in Paris had been a catalyst for Willem and Allyson. And that’s why those books take over a year, because that day catalyzed the change.

My Life Next Door author Huntley Fitzpatrick also answered fun questions! My Life Next Door is Huntley's debut novel that was published in 2011. The companion novel The Boy Most Likely To will be published in 2015. But for now, readers are waiting for her new upcoming novel, What I Thought Was True, out in April 15th.

1)What's the most incredible thing a fan has done to you?

To me, just reading the book is plenty incredible.

Writing to ask me “what happens next” is something that never fails to make my day. That my characters are alive enough that people wonder where they go, after turning the last page, is incredible.

2)I read an interesting fact about you on your Goodreads bio: "She kept an exhaustively thorough journal which frightened her boyfriends but has proved very useful in her career as a writer." So does that mean My Life Next Door or one of your [upcoming] books has something related to your boyfriend/ex(es)?

Yes, I kept them, and yes, they were really detailed. The main liability was that the boy I liked would say “wait, how do you remember that?” when I referenced some moment,

And I’d have to say (all of them were true)

a)      I want to be a writer so I write down everything
b)      I have a really good memory
c)       I’m totally in love with you so everything you do matters to me.

It may not be insignificant that the first guy I gave my heart to had a memory as good as mine. “we did this and you said that and—“ and then he’d stop. But he’d already given himself away. I loved that.

About those boys: fiction is fiction. There are little pieces of the boys I love in every love story I write, of course. Because we love who we love, and how they act and are, and that can’t help but find its way onto the page. But all my characters are themselves, not any person from my own life.

3)What's your dream/ideal date?

To me, what I love the most about dating are three things a) you learn something about them b) they GET something about you c) it’s completely unexpected.  So, to me, it doesn’t matter what you do as long as those happen. On our first date, my husband hailed a horse and carriage and we rode through Central Park. It was so romantic and extravagant, so over the top. We’d both lived and worked in Manhattan for a while. But we worked there, we never did the fun, touristy things.  That was spontaneous, and he already knew I would love that C) That he thought to do that for me…I still swoon.
