Celebrating Debutantes 2013: Emma Pass (13 Random Facts + Giveaway)

We're down to the last debut author! Let's welcome on the blog the author of one of the books I loved on 2013!

Emma Pass

13 Random Facts

1. I grew up at an environmental studies centre, surrounded by animals and mad-scientist types. It was awesome!

2. I hate raisins, but I have no idea why.

3. When I was a little kid, I had an imaginary dog called Bluebell. She was a black-and-tan King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.

4. Before I realized I wanted to be a writer, I was convinced I was going to be a musician, and studied up to Grade 7 on the piano and Grade 5 on the oboe.

5. I can read two books a week (more if I have time).

(Sidenote: Me too. I think that's considered 'many' to me, but I figured some people can read within two hours. I'd like to think it's a talent. LOL)

6. I wrote my first novel when I was 13, mostly in maths lessons with my notebook hidden under my work (and I never got caught!). It was a sequel to Jurassic Park, and by page 20 there had been two dinosaur attacks, a landslide, a jeep crash and a suicide.

7. I'm obsessed with notebooks, which I collect, then can't bear to write in because they're too pretty.

8. If I could have any sort of house, it would be a treehouse – a great big one in a twisty old tree, with spectacular views all around it.

9. I'm not scared of spiders. In fact, I love them. They're fascinating!

(Sidenote: You can't be serious. They're gross! :O)

10. I have a BA in Fine Art/painting

11. I have had three dreams which have come true.

(Sidenote: Congratulations!)

12. I have seen a ghost.

13. My lucky number is 13!

(Sidenote: Can't disagree to that!)

More about Emma!

Her YA dystopian thriller ACID is out from Random House Children's Books on 25th April 2013 (UK), Mondadori on 13th June 2013 (Spain) and Delacorte on 1st April 2014 (US). Here's Emma's debut novel!

ACID
(ACID #1)
by Emma Pass

Published April 25th 2013 by Corgi Children's Books

Blurb (Goodreads):

The year is 2113. In Jenna Strong's world, ACID—the most brutal controlling police force in history—rule supreme. No throwaway comment or whispered dissent goes unnoticed—or unpunished. And it was ACID agents who locked Jenna away for life, for a horrendous crime she struggles to remember. But Jenna's violent prison time has taught her how to survive by any means necessary.

When a mysterious rebel group breaks her out, she must use her strength, speed, and skill to stay one step ahead of ACID, and try to uncover the truth about what really happened on that terrible night two years ago. They have taken her life, her freedom, and her true memories away from her. How can she reclaim anything when she doesn't know who to trust?

Strong, gritty writing, irresistible psychological suspense, and action consume the novel as Jenna struggles to survive against the all-controlling ACID. Seriously sinister stuff.

  1. Awww, we have one thing in common, my lucky number is 13 as well. :) Also, you love spiders?! OMG, shudders violently! They're a big no-no. LOL!!!
Wanted to read Acid since I saw the cover last year, but never got the chance to grab a copy, so I totally wouldn't mind winning it, js. :) Thanks for a giveaway!
Best of luck Emma with any future book that comes!
