Celebrating Debutantes: Thank You + Books of 2013

*sniff*
It is the end.
No, it's not. HA! :P

This is just the closing of Celebrating Debutantes' first chapter. And I would like to THANK all the people who dropped by my blog everyday to read the interviews, to join the giveaways, to spread the word and giving me nice words about the event.

THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES to the debut authors of 2012 who participated! This blog event won't be possible without you.

It is fun to see that with the same interview questions, these authors have different answers on what they felt about being a published author at last, their best fan moments, how they celebrated their book publishing, their thoughts about reviews, readers and bloggers, their next projects and also, we've got to know them in fun ways.

I can't wait to get to know our next batch of debut authors!

We will come back later this year for the second annual Celebrating Debutantes, yes. But for now, here are some books you must check out from debut authors of 2013.

Books are randomly ordered. (I even used random.org!) I might be missing some books from other debut authors, so, sorry! Let me know if there's a book(s) you are checking out next year from a debut author of 2013 (of course) and I'll add them on our list!

Not a Drop to Drink
by Mindy McGinnis
Expected publication: September 9th 2013 by Katherine Tegen Books

If she has water, she has life.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

Splintered

Expected publication: January 1st 2013 by Amulet Books

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery...who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

The S-Word
by Chelsea Pitcher
Expected publication: May 7th 2013 by Gallery Books

First it was SLUT scribbled all over Lizzie Hart’s locker.

But one week after Lizzie kills herself, SUICIDE SLUT replaces it—in Lizzie's looping scrawl.

Lizzie’s reputation is destroyed when she's caught in bed with her best friend’s boyfriend on prom night. With the whole school turned against her, and Angie not speaking to her, Lizzie takes her own life. But someone isn’t letting her go quietly. As graffiti and photocopies of Lizzie’s diary plaster the school, Angie begins a relentless investigation into who, exactly, made Lizzie feel she didn’t deserve to keep living. And while she claims she simply wants to punish Lizzie’s tormentors, Angie's own anguish over abandoning her best friend will drive her deep into the dark, twisted side of Verity High—and she might not be able to pull herself back out.

Debut author Chelsea Pitcher daringly depicts the harsh reality of modern high schools, where one bad decision can ruin a reputation, and one cruel word can ruin a life. Angie’s quest for the truth behind Lizzie’s suicide is addictive and thrilling, and her razor-sharp wit and fierce sleuthing skills makes her impossible not to root for—even when it becomes clear that both avenging Lizzie and avoiding self-destruction might not be possible.

Ink
(The Paper Gods #1)
by Amanda Sun
Expected publication: June 25th 2013 by Harlequin Teen

I looked down at the paper, still touching the tip of my shoe. I reached for it, flipping the page over to look.

A sick feeling started to twist in my stomach, like motion sickness.

And then the girl in the drawing turned her head, and her inky eyes glared straight into mine.

On the heels of a family tragedy, the last thing Katie Greene wants to do is move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn’t know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can’t seem to get the hang of taking her shoes off whenever she enters a building.

Then there’s gorgeous but aloof Tomohiro, star of the school’s kendo team. How did he really get the scar on his arm? Katie isn’t prepared for the answer. But when she sees the things he draws start moving, there’s no denying the truth: Tomo has a connection to the ancient gods of Japan, and being near Katie is causing his abilities to spiral out of control. If the wrong people notice, they'll both be targets.

Katie never wanted to move to Japan—now she may not make it out of the country alive.

I'm super excited on this year's debuts because there are lots of interesting titles I don't know where should I begin, I am more aware on lots of things (like how to search titles and all XD) and I'm also joining Debut Author Challenge 2013. So, yay!

The thing is, I only have one, and it is the book I won lately (which is I'm soo excited to read!). But I would still love to have a number of titles. Not only for the challenge, but also for my bookish needs (hah! :D).

So..if there are any debut authors reading this *winks exaggeratedly*, I'd love to read and review your book! Don't get mad at me if your book is not here on the list. I'm sorry! But I'd still love to read your book. You know where to reach me (my contact info is everywhere in this blog, the nearest is on the bottom of this post ;).

I'm also inviting you all in super advance for Celebrating Debutantes 2013. It will start in November (but of course, we need to catch up before that) or October if we have wonderful list.

There will be new interview questions from me and your readers (I'm doing a survey mid-2013) and my partner(!). Yes, I'll be having partner because this year would be super busy for me. I'll finish my second sem of being a third year nursing student and start (and end) my first sem of fourth year and start my second sem of fourth year. There will be lots of duties, completion, thesis, case study, major exams, reportings, etc.--so I need a trusted partner. I'll introduce her to you very soon! ;)

And to my lovely readers, which titles (debut or not) are you looking forward this year? What's your very first book you've read? Like it? Loved it? Share your thoughts below (it's totally free)!

For suggestions, comments, questions, clarifications, words of wisdom or review request, just leave it in the comments below or email me at michelleshoutsrandom.blog[at]gmail[dot]com (if you want me to read and review your gorgeous book ;)

1/7/13 UPDATE: For debut authors of 2013 that are interested in participating Celebrating Debutantes 2013, please fill out this FORM. Thank you.

Good luck debutantes and happy reading bookworms!
