Blurb (Goodreads):
Rachel Adams has a secret. While the other girls in Baalboden sew dresses and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the city's brutal Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father's apprentice, Logan - the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same one who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but a fierce belief in her father's survival, Rachel decides to find him herself. But what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.

Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city's top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor's daughter. Logan is determined to protect her but soon realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can't be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

My Thoughts:

I thought maybe Defiance was one of the books that I became interested because of the hype. But there's this pretty cover (I know, I know) and awesome blurb. I just have to read it. Now let's go to the point already.

Defiance wasn't the kind of dystopian novel that had the same story as other dystopian novels do. It had action, but the beauty of this is that the entire book wasn't spent in action a.k.a killing each other. It had a story and secret that's waiting to be unravel on the next pages of the book. It told the story of Rachel, the daughter of the top courier in their city. She grew up witnessing the job of her father and learning skills girls wasn't supposed to be learning. When her father didn't returned from his mission, she set her own plan and mission to find her father.

Few years ago, Rachel fell in love and turned down by Logan, her father's apprentice. When her father proclaimed dead by the Commander, Logan was appointed as her Protector by her father's wishes. They were both surprised and against her father's decision. But since Logan is now Rachel's Protector and Logan also cared for Rachel's father, together they planned to go search for Jared.

I did saw that there'll be romance that will develop between these two even before I start reading. What I didn't expected was the feels I had. The previous books I've read before Defiance satisfied me with their swoon-worthy romance, and Defiance didn't failed me too. The way they developed feelings for each other--the staring, God. That alone is perfect. Their chemistry is strong enough to make my heart swell with love and send butterflies in my stomach.

Apart from a really good romance and action, Defiance also showed the love for the family and facing the inevitable. Staying strong even though you've lost almost everyone, and fighting back even though they think they're big enough for you to hit them.

Defiance is a strong and bitter-sweet novel. Intelligently written and I loved it.

Check out my review for the sequel, Deception!
