My Thoughts:


Reading Audrey's Guide to Witchcraft is a fun experience. 

Audrey's is not your typical girl. She has something magical in her..but she don't know it yet. Until one day a mysterious girl came after her mother went missing. That's when she found out that she--her mother, as well--was a witch. (Don't worry, that's not a spoiler. You'd know it from the title right away.)

I liked how the story unfold--though I can tell some events. The characters are fun and funny and quite weird. The romance in it also has the effect on me. I really liked it and I'm smiling while I read it.

The overall story was really nice. Even if it is a series, I already saw a lot given in this book and it didn't left me feel incomplete. I liked and enjoy it on the very first page til the last.

My Thoughts:

As the title says it: Wingless. This book is not about angels. But they do come from Heaven. Who landed--practically landed--on Earth. Tane, a not-angel-but-Fismuthian girl has landed from Heaven to Earth to retrieve the Septar. A Fismuthian as well.

I don't quite get the story at first but eventually I've understood it. The next chapter (and a different POV) was fun (and funny) that hooked me up right away. The world building was well-thought, the characters are pretty cool but I was hoping for more action. More unforgettable scenes like the near-end and ending have.

I can really say that this is a good book. It was fun and new and mysterious and well-written. The ending was so amazing that made me want to read the next book. I must say that I'm really impressed with Cydney Lawson's debut book. The only thing I want to demand was..more. 

Recommendations:

For everyone who loves reading paranormal, urban fantasy (and every where this book's genre landed). Try this if you're feeling like you've had enough of angels. Good for your pre-Halloween!

My Thoughts:

To be honest, I've never read (or heard) of Melissa Marr before. Everyone seems to know her, or read her books. Reading reviews about this book on Goodreads and her other books, I realized that they must've really know her and loved her books. So when an opportunity sets in, I took it. Carnival of Souls, is my first book from her.

You know, if you're a reader and you read and read (of course) but you can't find light or anything you wanted to see or to get from these books, you could cry of frustration. Where is THAT good book?? You feel like giving up. Like giving up from trying to create a house of cards, but WANTING to get to it.

Reading Carnival of Souls was a joy to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't like people killing each other and talking about breeding like that in real life. It's just that, finally, I've got the book what I'm looking for. It's all in my hands! This book has it: original world building, favorable characters, and oh-so new to me. I've always like books that came fresh to me. Who likes reading repeated stories and predictable endings? I'm sure you don't want that, either. It's a kind of book where you don't know what to expect next, what and who are you gonna trust your heart with. It keeps you guessing, leaves you nodding like, Hmm.. This is really good, and makes you cheer like, Yes! Come together and beat those witches!

This is, by far, my really good read for felt like forever after a several DNFs (that God, those books were just borrowed). As I said, it is new to me. It caught my interest and yes, it kept me wishing for more. It think it's just a little slow-paced. And the ending. The Ending. It felt like a cut TV show for a commercial break but you realized that it will never come back until after another YEAR. Sweet, isn't it?

My first, but now, made me want to read more from Melissa Marr. I found light in a dark novel. And it's a good thing. Very.

Recommendations:
If you love reading, fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi, witches and daimons, magic, actions, this book is for you. (Be also aware that this book contains fight scenes that younger readers must be guided.)

My Thoughts:

When you see a book listed together with Fifty Shades, Beautiful Disaster, Bared to You, etc with the title Intense and "Angsty" Romance in Goodreads...it makes you wanna stay away from that book especially when all you want is a clean, but really good romance book. But something about this book makes me don't wanna miss it. Especially with consistent high reviews and ratings.

Saw it on Netgalley. Requested. Got approved. And here I am.

I never expected I'd like this but... I. Love. This. Book! Awesome. Awesome. Awesome!

It's seems like a love at first sight for Will, and Layken was just being friendly since she just moved in. Usually, this kind of sequence would irritate me, but no. Never this time. Coz after this cliché intro, I was pretty hooked up with the story and characters. 

I loved how Colleen Hoover created Will, as the swoon-worthy male leading character without describing how hot he is in over-exaggerating adjective words. He is adorable because he's being a real and lovable person. He's being real through poetry. Layken confuses me sometimes, though. One time, she's being adorable, one time she's being like a spoiled child. The story wasn't clearly I expected. It contains a powerful romance, and holds a dilemma neither I can't help but think of ways how to fix it. I also loved the Slammed in the book and poetry (you'll see what I meant when you read it).

Slammed is a book about love. Love for your family, parents, sibling, job, your life...and that special person. Reading this book made me realized that my heart was never torn since Dear John by Nicholas Sparks (which was a million years reads ago), or be into a whirlwind of emotions. I was never prepared for any of it. It is also a book that talks about the reality of our life. It is true, it is honest. Any reader would learn a lesson and fall in love from this book. Everything about this book is lovable.

I'm about to request Point of Retreat (Slammed #2) now... ;)

And oh, have I told you that is a clean contemporary romance?

Recommendation:

For everyone who wants a good very good love story. Teens and above of age.

A stage and a spotlight. It represents Slammed (not the book--but the Slammed that is in the book). But whoever who's gonna came across this book for the first time, seeing the cover alone won't appreciate it right away, I'm afraid.

Slammed doesn't really have an alternate cover with different picture, like other books does. But I would like to show you the updated cover (published by Atria Books) with a praise on it and the "New York Times Bestseller" tag. It deserves to have one and lot more--because it really is good.

My Thoughts:


Remembrance is a book about reincarnated romance. I have to admit that I've read few books with the same theme and I'm hoping to be welcome by fresh kind of story and not exactly like the others. Remembrance is quite different, alas.

While other books about reincarnation talks about how the two protagonist loved each other, can't live without the other, how these characters have these uber cheesy lines but NO explanation why do they lived generation after generation..Madow puts a clear answer to the Why? of a reader. And for me, it's kinda refreshing and a good news.

The book was told in Lizzie POV and started right away obsessing about this new *hot* guy. I appreciated that it started on what is the point of the story. What I didn't understand was, it started, goes on, and on and on and ended with her talking about Drew. Drew. Drew.
When they're finally together, I didn't feel the spark or the romance that much. I just sit there, read and felt nothing. Another thing: some of the scenes are predictable. I knew what will happen next even before it will. I dislike that on the books I read. I feel like I've known it before I read it.

I really liked the fact that this book was inspired of the song and music video of Taylor Swift's Love Story. Well, if it wasn't that obvious, I'm a huge fan of hers. There are times when I was reading the book I wanted to ask the author, Are you also a fan of Taylor? Because some parts were like, described her. Or her music. Especially the guy's name: Drew. Was it Drew from Teardrops on My Guitar? Lizzie. She was described as TS. Blonde, curly hair (which was obviously her because this book was inspired by Love Story, after all). And other simple things that remind me of Taylor. And then I thought, maybe it was just me being a fan.

Overall, it was nice, easy read. The only things that I didn't liked much about this book were the ones I've written above.

For all romance readers. Who likes reincarnation-themed books. Taylor fan? :)

My Thoughts:

I got an ebook copy from the author. She's hosting a giveaway with this book, but gave a coupon anyway on Smashwords for the hoppers. Wow, right? I've been really excited because this has been sitting on my Goodreads tbr for a while--and tada! Free from the author. ;) Thank you SO much, Nikki!

Look at the cover. A photograph of a beautiful girl who promised enchanting and magical adventure. But I didn't expect a lot from this book. As they say, looks can be deceiving. I might finish (or not finish) this with a frown on my face because I didn't liked it. And I did.

I've read several books with witches on it. All of them would end up dystopian or locked in a secluded world even if they started in a 'normal' time and surroundings. Entangled doesn't. From beginning to end, it was on a present 'normal' world, and it isn't what I didn't liked. I actually appreciated how Nikki maintained Entangled's world of 'normalcy' even though there are witches, warlocks and magics every where.

I must say that I REALLY hate Charlene. The evil twin sister. Forgive me for the word, but she's a bitch who knew nothing but being pretty and perfect and selfish. How could you do such things to your own twin sister? Or even an innocent person? And then she'd go gaga about a boy who's a jerk and a sure equivalent of her. If you could only see me how much I wanted to pull her perfect hair or cast a spell. UGH.

The other twin, on the other hand, Graylee, is a character you would definitely love to put on a book with an annoying character like Charlene. Who would knew that the next day you woke up is you're dead and on your twin sister's body? Sweet. But as I told you, she's the perfect match on Charlene's character. Graylee is not your typical sweet, too kind of female protagonist. I liked how she stands up for herself whoever contradicts or mess with her--as what she did on her sister. I liked her but there's some attitude I don't like or understand about her, like with her being short-tempered.

As much as you wanted to throw the book (or e-reader) because they're so annoying, with these type of characters, it surely will make a reader look forward into the next installment of the series, especially with the ending like this. It's not like I didn't liked this, btw, I have a frown on my face after reading this because I know I have lots of books to read for review and lots of school work to be done and have to ask the busy author a request (without knowing if it will be entertained or not) for the second book--and I. Can't. Read. It. Sooner.

Overall, the story is really good, all the characters are good and annoying and it just shows how much they are very effective to the readers (including me, of course) and this book and obviously, I can't wait to read Duplicity. I also liked the romance and looking forward to what will happen next especially with THE ending!

My Thoughts:

I first came across this book while browsing on my first day in Netgalley. I noticed the cover and got interested then read the blurb. It is a kind of story I've never read yet, but seen only in movies. Assassins, deserts, pirates. My, it reminds me of Aladdin and Prince of Persia. (I know. I'm not much fan of movies before that's why I've only seen a few.) At first I've hesitate in reading (or requesting) it. But still, I requested because I think it'll turn out to be a really great read. Just imagine my excitement when I got approved!

The Assassin's Curse was told by Ananna's POV. Like the summary you've read above, she ran off because her pirate parents are planning wedding for her. Ananna is indeed a strong young lady who tried to live by herself without knowing anyone, without any money or food. And I liked her. Naji, the assassin hired to kill her was another story. The tables turned when he's suddenly tied into an unbelievably impossible curse with Ananna.

I really liked the uniqueness of the story (though I must remind you again, this is the first time I read this kind of story, I'm not sure--though possibly--if there's one or two you've read about assassins and pirates and curses) and the two main characters. They maintain what and who they are until the ending. It is also an adventure book that's set in different locations, with different supporting characters that I did not get bored, the antagonists remained mysterious and scary. Although there's an annoyed part of me--like Ananna felt--when all the hard work's done and still couldn't receive an award. (Ooh, you have to find that out by yourself.) The ending, however, made a promise of another exciting journey--and I can already see: greater journey--for the book two.

You see, I'm already excited for the second book when this one is just about to publish! How long will it take??

Recommendation:

Sci-fi, fantasy lovers, books or movies. Well, another given things: Pirates. Assassins. Magic. Who couldn't resist that?

My Thoughts:

The--my--most awaited second book of the Divergent trilogy. I finally read.


I kept thinking, before its release, what Insurgent would bring and I can't seem to let myself imagine--maybe because I wanted to be surprised and right then, all I know is I WANT TO READ IT NOW. And now that I read it, I have mixed emotions.


Insurgent continued Divergent's interesting, captivating and heart-stopping debut. If I could, and not so busy, I would never put the book down and finish it in one sitting, and at the same time, I don't want to finish it right away because I know it will be eternity before the last book. LAST book.


Insurgent, was indeed, still action-packed. The mystery grew and new heartbreaking and oh-no scenes. I also loved Tris and Tobias' romance, both swoon-worthy and--get ready!--heartbreaking.


The ending was another cliffhanger and makes me want to grab Veronica Roth and force her to finish the third book. Kidding. I wouldn't be that harsh. Haha. But seriously? I want it now.


It's just saddening that the trilogy would soon end. Why does epic books only last three books? Why?


It was great, but if I rated Divergent 5 hearts, I'd give Insurgent 4.5.

My Thoughts:

Divergent was one of the books I regretted I judged by it's cover. When I first saw it, I know I don't want to read it or it's not for me. But then a blogger recommended me this, saying it was really great and then I saw that it was Reader's Choice on Goodreads, so I gave it a try.


Did I mention that I regretted it?


The moment I'm into it, I thank Heavens that I read it. After reading, I realized and appreciated the meaning of the cover. The Dauntless sign. Like the main female character, Tris Prior, Divergent was the kind of book that is fierceful.


It made me gasp, made my heart pound, kept me awake in the late nights of reading, and in every turn of the page, makes me admire how it was beautifully written and told. After reading it, I'm all like, Wow. It's really intense. Even in the romance part, it has the appeal. It has the right amount of swoon-worthy moments of Tris and Four (btw, I also love the idea of Four's nicname and the nicname itself), not too cheesy--that'll make you puke--and not too innocent.


Divergent was the book of my two firsts. (1) First dystopian read, and (2) first action read. I never thought I'd love this kind of book. I'm all romance and contemporary type of reader before. And now, because of Divergent, I fell in love with dystopian and action books. The way it takes me away from reality and make me feel like I'm the female protagonist that for a moment, I believe I am strong. This book also made me not judge the book by it's cover, along with The Hunger Games. Those kind of books really rocks.
